New Neighborhoods, Old Town

St. Cloud counted 58,964 people at the 2020 census. The Census Bureau's estimate for July 2025 is 74,960, a jump of more than a quarter in five years. Tree Service in St. Cloud follows that growth: new subdivisions with young trees planted close to houses, land being cleared for building, and an older town core near the lakefront with big trees that predate all of it.

A veterans' colony on the lake. St. Cloud was founded in 1909, when the Seminole Land & Investment Company acquired 35,000 acres for a colony of Union Army veterans of the Grand Army of the Republic, chosen for its 'health, climate and productiveness of soil.' Before that, Hamilton Disston had run a sugarcane plantation here in the 1880s, until the Great Freeze of 1894-95 ruined it. The older blocks near the lake still carry mature oaks and pines from the town's early decades.

East Lake Tohopekaliga. The city sits on the south shore of East Lake Toho, about 12,000 acres and unusually clear, with visibility of 7 to 9 feet. Lakefront lots catch wind across open water, and trees on them lean and grow one-sided. During Hurricane Ian in 2022, parts of St. Cloud were among the worst-flooded areas in Osceola County. Waterlogged soil and wind together are what bring trees down here.

Young trees, big futures. Most St. Cloud homes are owner-occupied (72.5% per Census QuickFacts) and households average just over three people. In new neighborhoods the best money spent on trees is early: structural pruning on a 5- to 15-year-old shade tree sets up a strong trunk and well-spaced limbs. Waiting until the tree is over the roof means bigger cuts and more cost.

Clearing and building. When owners on larger parcels on the edge of town want to build a shed, a pool or a second structure, trees often have to go. We can remove selected trees, grind the stumps and leave the site ready for the next trade, while keeping the trees you want to save protected from equipment.

Sand, sun and new lawns. Soils in new neighborhoods have often been graded and compacted during construction, and young trees planted into them struggle to root out. Keeping mulch rings wide, avoiding string-trimmer damage at the trunk and not piling soil against the base will do as much for a young tree as any pruning.

Utilities. Orlando Utilities Commission lists St. Cloud in its electric service area. Report trees touching power lines to the utility first; we work on the tree once the line is clear.

What we usually handle:

  • Structural pruning for young subdivision trees
  • Removal of storm-damaged, dead or leaning trees
  • Lot and site clearing for additions and outbuildings
  • Stump grinding
  • Lakefront tree assessments

St. Cloud Questions

The builder planted a tree right next to my new St. Cloud house. Should I move it?

Small trees can sometimes be moved in their first year or two. Otherwise, if it is a large-growing species within a few feet of the foundation, removing it early and planting the right tree farther away is usually the better long-term choice.

Can you clear trees for a pool or shed on my lot?

Yes. We remove the trees in the work area, grind the stumps and leave the ground ready, while protecting the trees you are keeping. Check whether your HOA or the city needs to sign off first.

Do lakefront trees on East Lake Toho need special care?

They take more wind and often lean toward the water. A check every few years for lean, root exposure and heavy limbs, plus targeted reduction pruning, keeps most of them safe.

Is there a tree company near me in St. Cloud that does stump grinding only?

We do. If a stump is left from an old removal, we can grind it on its own and clean up the chips, or leave them for mulch.
