Living on Lake Conway
Tree Service in Belle Isle starts with water. About 2.78 of the city's 5.18 square miles are lake, mostly Lake Conway, one of Greater Orlando's largest lakes, plus the southern part of Little Lake Conway. With only about 2.4 square miles of land, many lots are long and narrow, running from the street down to a seawall. Trees on those lots grow tall and lean toward open water, and that is where much of our Belle Isle work happens.
Owners who have been here a while
Belle Isle's owner-occupied housing rate is 90.9%, one of the highest in the Orlando area, according to Census QuickFacts, and 23.6% of residents are 65 or older. In practice that means mature trees that have been in one family's care for decades, and owners who would rather not climb a ladder or haul brush themselves. We handle the whole job, including cleanup, and can set up a regular pruning schedule.
Close to the airport, open to the wind
Belle Isle sits about three miles northwest of Orlando International Airport. When Hurricane Charley crossed the area in August 2004, the airport recorded a gust of 106 mph. Open water lets wind build with nothing to slow it, so lakefront trees on Lake Conway take the brunt of storms coming across the lake. Thinning a dense crown and removing deadwood before hurricane season reduces how much wind a tree catches without stripping it bare.
Shoreline work, step by step
1. We look at the tree from the water side as well as the house side, checking for root exposure along the seawall. 2. We decide whether it can be pruned to correct weight or whether removal is the safer choice. 3. If removal, we plan rigging points so sections are lowered onto the lawn, not the dock or the lake. 4. We grind the stump if you want it gone, staying clear of the seawall structure. 5. We rake and blow off patios, docks and boat lifts before we leave.
Who handles what
Belle Isle runs its own city government under a council-manager system and has had its own police department since 2009. For questions about whether a particular tree needs city review before removal, call City Hall before work starts. Trees touching power lines should be reported to your electric utility, which clears its own lines; we work on the rest of the tree once the line is safe.
Hurricane prep on the lake
The weeks before June are the time to look up. Dead limbs over the dock, branches resting on the roof and palms with brown, hanging fronds are the first things wind removes for you, usually in the worst place. Getting them down on your schedule is cheaper than storm cleanup.

Belle Isle Questions
My oak leans over the lake. Should it come down?
Not always. A lean that developed slowly toward light, with solid roots and no soil heave, can often be managed by reducing weight on the lake side. A new or increasing lean, or exposed roots at the seawall, points toward removal.
Can you set up a yearly pruning visit?
Yes. Many owners prefer a scheduled visit each spring before hurricane season. We keep notes on what was done so each visit builds on the last.
Will stump grinding damage my seawall?
We keep the grinder a safe distance from the wall and stop at roots that tie into it. Sometimes the right answer is to cut a stump flush and leave the deepest roots in place to avoid disturbing the wall.
What should I do first after a storm drops a tree in my yard?
Stay clear of any downed wires and call the utility if lines are involved. Then take photos for insurance and call (407) 641-4203; we will tell you what we can safely do and when.
Can you reach a tree from the lake side if the yard access is narrow?
Sometimes the side yard on a Lake Conway lot is the only way in. We plan around it with climbing and rigging, carrying wood out by hand if needed. Working from a boat is rarely practical for anything beyond small branches.
